Seminars provide grant information

Seminars to inform local leaders on the purpose of a new $250,000 work force development planning grant will take place this month in the five North Idaho counties.

Vicki Isakson, Idaho Department of Labor project manager for the Regional Innovation Grant, will discuss the purpose of the grant from the U.S. Department of Labor and how the money can be used over the next 18 months.

The seminars are set for:

• Boundary County, Sept. 15 from noon to 12:30 p.m. at the Kootenai River Inn in Bonners Ferry.

• Shoshone County, Sept. 16 from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Broken Wheel restaurant in Kellogg.

• Bonner County, Sept. 18 from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Panhandle State Bank Sandpoint Center in Sandpoint.

• Kootenai County, Sept. 18 from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Idaho Department of Labor office in Coeur d'Alene.

• Benewah County, Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Panhandle Health District office in St. Maries.

The department wants to put together a five-county leadership team of businesses owners, educators, foundation representatives and work force and economic development experts to map the area's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and risks based on its assets to identify talent development strategies focused on the advanced manufacturing, aerospace, biomedical and biotechnology sectors. The grant will finance this work.

More information is available from Vicki Isakson at (208) 769-1558 Ext. 3917.
